"Tell Me What You See" What I Saw at the Houck Trial

CADMUS: Whose face is it then that you hold in your arms?
AGAVE: A lion’s. Or so they said, the huntresses.
CADMUS: Look right at it. It’s an easy thing to see.
AGAVE: Oh, no! What do I see? What is this thing in my hands?
CADMUS: Look at it closely! Learn it more carefully!
AGAVE: I see a terrible pain. God save me!
CADMUS: So does it look like a lion to you anymore?
AGAVE: No, but Pentheus! Oh god, I’m holding his head!
(she shrieks with grief)
CADMUS: He was bewailed before you recognized him.
AGAVE: Who killed him? How did he end up in my hands?
CADMUS: The truth is terrible and inopportune.
AGAVE: Tell me. My heart is pounding at the things to come.
CADMUS: You killed him, with the help of your sisters.

Euripides play The Bacchae has been a warning for the culture that we live in that goes back to the very beginning of culture. It is a warning on the very real, deadly consequences of the vice of feminism, and it is a poetic reference point for every battle in the Culture Wars. More than 2,400 years after it was written, The Bacchae had a repeat performance in Philadelphia. If Cadmus were to walk into the Federal Court House in Philadelphia he would be surrounded by women wearing pantsuits. The pantsuit is an attempt to make masculine clothing more feminine and suitable for women, but it only results in something androgynous. A savage, unfamiliar with the current civil affairs in American society, might assume that because this one building is overwhelmingly full of women in pantsuits, that there is a causal relationship between the pantsuits and Mark Houck being on trial. Even the savage whose innate intellectual abilities are unadulterated by American culture can see what ancient Agave failed to see, namely, women in pantsuits, symbolic of feminism, are the immediate reason why Mark Houck ended up on the dock in front of Chief U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Jacqueline Romera, and Assistant United States Attorneys Anita Eve and Ashley Martin, as well as FBI Special Agent Jacqueline Maguire – Head of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office.

Mark Houck was not chosen at random to be made an example of by these four women. He was singled out because only a few blocks away from court where he went on trial lies the institution which put him there, the headquarters of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania. This center is the most prolific killing center in the Planned Parenthood network of Pennsylvania, which performed more than 3,000 abortions in 2021. This is also the location where the alleged FACE Act violation against Bruce Love by Mark Houck took place. It is in the heart of what is called The Gayborhood. This is where Houck has been coming twice a week to pray and counsel women on the sidewalk for the last twenty years. The building prominently displays feminism’s scarlet letter as a badge of honor: PRIDE, the worst of the seven deadly sins.

WHO IS BRUCE LOVE?

The women in pantsuits did not work alone. They needed a willing accomplice. Someone even more depraved than themselves. The feminists needed a “true believer,” someone willing to do anything for the movement. This is where Bruce Love enters the picture. And who is Burce Love? In the words of a couple of sidewalk counselors in attendance at the Hock trial, “Bruce Love is the most obnoxious escort. Bruce is always in your face. Always trying to provoke you.” Another sidewalk counselor who has known Bruce for twenty years said, “When I greet him, I will say, Hi Bruce, and [he] returns the greeting every time with, Fuck You, Pat.”

Bruce makes his way from the suburbs into the Gayborhood twice a week. It is a trip he has been making for the past thirty years as a volunteer. “Rain or snow,” Bruce says he is there every time, as long as the roads are open. On direct examination Bruce said he got started as a volunteer because, “A friend told me about it, and I thought that I would be good at it.”

Bruce Love does not reveal too many personal details other than that he has spent most of his career as a computer programmer. But for a rather simple volunteer position of greeting and escorting women for the last couple yards as they approach the clinic entrance, it is hard to imagine what talents Bruce thought he possessed which would make him good at being an escort, other than his constant use of profanity directed at side walk counselors and people in prayer. Bruce’s social media posts as well as his posts on the message board www.democratunderground.com suggest his profanity is linked to his hatred of the Catholic Church, but these are the type of qualities that made Bruce Love an ideal escort for Planned Parenthood. Dayle Steinberg, the CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania, testified that she had known Bruce for twenty years, and was hopeful that he would be back volunteering as escort as soon as this case was over. Yet in a cover-your-ass e-mail sent in the wake of the incident that Bruce provoked with Mark Houck, and submitted as evidence only two days before trial, Steinberg admitted that Bruce Love “has been spoken to about our nonengagement policy and he continues to disregard. I think he needs to be removed.” Miss Steinberg, in other words, was well aware of Bruce’s behavior and pleased to let it continue.

Prior to the announcement of the Federal Investigation of Mark Houck, Bruce Love had filed a civil suit against Houck in the Philadelphia courts. After failing to show up for the trial on three separate occasions, each of which Mr. Love rescheduled, the case was thrown out of court. Immediately after Bruce Love failed to show up in court for the final hearing, Houck and Father Jim Hutchins, one of his character witnesses, who had shown up for the trial, decided to pray at a different abortion clinic in Center City, 777 Apple Street. Upon their arrival, they found that Bruce Love was volunteering as an escort at this location. As they arrived, Bruce Love asked Houck and Father Hutchins, “did you enjoy court today?” Father Hutchins let Bruce know that they will be praying for him to which Bruce replied, “Fuck You, Asshole.” Why would Bruce Love file civil charges against Houck if he never even intended to show up for court? Knowing that the FBI was involved with Bruce Love beginning two days after the incident, it raises the question, was the Department of Justice (DOJ) instructing Mr. Love to string Houck along in the legal system in an attempt to financially strain Houck while the federal case was being prepared? Not long after the trial, an article detailing the FBI’s collaboration with the Southern Poverty Law Center in a joint attempt to target Catholics made the news, lending credence to this suspicion.1

TELL ME, WHAT DO YOU SEE: THE TESTIMONY OF BRUCE LOVE

In Bruce Love’s testimony, there is finally a chance to hear exactly what it is that Bruce sees at 11th and Locust. Leading up to Bruce’s testimony, the prosecution only referred to sidewalk counselors and those standing nearby in prayer as “protestors.” So, what exactly is it about the protestors that provokes Bruce Love to such indignation? When DOJ attorney Ashley Martin questioned Mr. Love on this, Love describes the protestors’ barbarism and unruliness in detail:

“The protestors,” Love claimed, “stand and give literature. They approach and say they don’t need to go into the clinic basically.”

Ms. Martin then followed up by asking Love specifically about the behavior of Mark Houck:

Ms. Martin: “what does he do normally?”

Bruce Love: If no patients he’s praying or saying the rosary, in Latin maybe.

Ms. Martin: “And if his son is there?”

Bruce Love: “He acts the same.”

The subsequent cross examination of Bruce Love by Houck’s defense attorney Brian McMonagle reminded me of a foretaste of what God’s justice will be like at the Final Judgement when all secret thoughts will be revealed. For the next hour Bruce Love, who was seeking to have an innocent man sent to prison for up to 11 years, got exposed for the bold liar he truly is. Whenever Bruce got caught in a lie, his voice began to tremble, it continued to tremble every time he got outed, causing the jury to roll its eyes at his contradictions. In his first exchange with Love, defense attorney Brian McMonagle asked:

“How many interviews did you have with the DOJ and FBI in preparation for this testimony?

Bruce Love: Five to eight meetings.

Mr. McMonagle: And did they prep you with what questions they would ask you?

Bruce Love: No, they did not prepare me.

Mr. McMonagle: What about your charity work? They asked you about it.

Bruce Love: Well, they might have prepared me a little.

Brian McMonagle then asks him about just a few of the vulgarities which he had directed to Mark Houck even in front of his son: “Why don’t you go home and take it in the asshole?” “I’ll stand wherever I fucking want.” “Fuck you, asshole.” “Your dad’s a fag.” [In addition to being a liar, Love was also a homophobe, something which the otherwise politically correct FBI ignored.] “Why don’t you go be with pedophile priests?”

After recounting instances of Love’s verbal abuse, McMonagle instructed Father Jim Hutchins to stand up in the court room, asking Bruce Love, “Do you remember calling him a Fucking Asshole?”

Bruce Love’s voice was shaking during the entire exchange and failed to communicate a cogent response, but Love had asserted in his testimony with Ms. Martin that he never used foul language. But, when questioned about his user name and account “NoRethugFriends” on www.democratunderground.com, Bruce is forced to admit that it is a website he posts, and with his voice trembling again after having been caught in another lie, admits to some use of vulgarity.

Mr. McMonagle: NoRethugFriends is you. What do you say on that website? You admitted using foul language.

Mr. Love: No.

Mr. McMonagle: Let’s go back. Are you suggesting that your use of profane language is not constant?

Mr. Love: Yes.

The most egregious part of Love’s testimony came as the jury watched the video of the second encounter, which directly contradicted his previous testimony to DOJ attorney Martin. In that video an unprovoked Love walked from the entrance of Planned Parenthood and leaned against the building wall, directly next to Houck’s 12-year-old son, contradicting his statement to the FBI that he was “never within 8 feet of Mark Houck Jr.” The video showed him leaning on the wall directly next to Mark Houck, Jr.

In one of his first interviews with the FBI, Bruce Love admitted that he actually thinks that Houck’s intention in pushing him was to protect his son because of what Love calls Houck’s “warped sense of reality.” By Love’s own admission, he as the accuser gives testimony that Houck’s intention was not to intimidate or prevent access to the clinic. This point is critical because in FACE Act charges, the government must prove this motive. After listening to the government’s argument, and hearing Love’s testimony, which bore no semblance of reality compared to what was seen on video, it must be asked, who here has the warped sense of reality?

Watching the video evidence submitted by the Department of Justice, I saw Mark Houck Jr’s feet uneasily scooting away from Bruce Love as he leaned against the wall, and eventually fully retreat to get behind his father out of fear of a 72-year-old man, with enormous ears, and with most of his face covered with a filthy-looking, medical mask. Love did not leave the clinic entrance to peer around the corner for anyone who might be approaching. He approached a 12-year-old boy directly, deliberately leaning next to him, and with his hands placed assertively on his hips as he approached Houck and his son. The prosecution attempted to make the case that escorts are trained to use this posture because it is defensive in nature and diffuses tension. Later in their arguments, they said this posture was used to assert dominance, as practiced by the angry, foul-mouthed, gay, and ultimately transgendered, teacher from South Park, Mr. Herbert Garrison. Like Bruce Love, Mr. Garrison always has his hands on his hips and suffers from the same hysteria as Bruce Love.

Love then contested what everyone in the courtroom had just seen on the video by claiming that “I do not accept that I positioned myself next to the son.” He did this in spite of the fact that the government called three eyewitnesses to the stand, all of whom corroborated what the defense asserted: that Houck told Bruce to get away from his son, When Houck testified the following day he caused three women to weep as he recounted Love’s actions and words.

THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

Like Agave, holding the head of her own son Pentheus, the feminists at the DOJ who were in charge of this case were so intoxicated with rage they failed to see that nothing they presented made any sense. The evidence the U.S. Government produced supported the defense’s case, as did the video which they introduced. In his interviews with the FBI, Love lied about being pushed in the back, the evidence that government needed to provoke motive for a FACE Act violation. It was contradicted by Love’s own statement to the FBI that he believed Houck thought he was acting to protect his son. The three eyewitnesses called by the government, all supported Houck’s claim that he told Love repeatedly to “get away from my son.” Nearly all of Bruce Love’s testimony was demonstrated to be a lie. The explanation given by Planned Parenthood’s head of Security, Faz Malik, as to why he did not save video footage of the first incident, made no logical sense.

The warped sense of reality extended to DOJ Attorney Ashley Martin. In her opening argument she painted a devastating picture of a much larger, “muscular” man seeking to intimidate Mr. Love. The initial confidence was transformed into emotional outbursts as her lead witness began to be exposed as a shameless liar. Failing to conjure up words or even the words “objection” during Bruce Love’s cross examination, she was at times speechless and was reduced to flailing her arms:

Ms. Martin: Your Honor!

Judge Pappert: Oh not again.

Ms. Martin: Irrelevant.

Judge Pappert: Overruled.

Ms. Martin: Objection.

Judge Pappert: Overruled.

Ms. Martin: May I see you at Side Bar.

Judge Pappert: No. We have been over this.

Ms. Martin: Objection

Judge Pappert: OVERRULED!

Ms. Martin: Objection, irrelevant.

Judge Pappert: It’s obviously relevant.

At other times, Judge Pappert speaking to the prosecution would say, “I’m not following your argument at all.” At another time Judge Pappert, presumably remarking on the cross examination of Bruce Love, said, “Someone’s got to keep him honest.”

Ms. Martin was not the only female DOJ attorney who became enraged over the prosecution’s crumbling narrative. During the week-long trial, a number of DOJ attorneys appeared in and out of the courtroom following the case. One of those DOJ attorneys, a woman who appeared to be in her fifties, became enraged when Love’s lies and cockamamie explanations provoked conspicuous instances of eye-rolling among members of the jury and others in the court room. Another enraged DOJ attorney entered the courtroom, walked to the section where the Houcks left their coats, and pushed several coats aside to make room for herself, skipping over the rest of the totally empty section of benches. When a few Houck family members told her that the family left their coats there because they were planning on sitting together, the DOJ attorney replied, “I’ll sit wherever I want.”

STATE OF MIND: U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND CIVIL RIGHTS

U.S. Attorney from Washington D.C., Sanjay Patel offered little assistance to Ms. Martin as the prosecution made its opening arguments, leading the defense to make a motion to dismiss. “What we’ve heard today,” McMonagle argued, “is an encounter inspired by one man. A man who made it his mission to confront a man, doing nothing wrong according to Planned Parenthood.” Mr. McMonagle was referring here to Planned Parenthood’s Escort Training Manual, which described Houck’s behavior that day as perfectly acceptable.

“The first encounter,” McMonagle continued, “was polite and respectful, undisputed." But "Love does the opposite. He sprints, comes and loops around Houck according to Miss Weiss. And he pushed him.”

During the second encounter, by every indication, Mr. Love was being told to stay away. “The elements of a crime not met.” Thus a “motive was not even attempted to prove because of the evidence to the contrary…” McMonagle claims that it was "A disgrace to give him the cover of this statute” because "Mr. Love admits he caused both confrontations.….”
